Privacy Policy
This policy explains what The Westerne Company (“we”) collects when you use Vizirack, why, who else handles it and what choices you have. The short version: your trophy room is private, Rack IQ is the one part of Vizirack other people see, we use your information to run the app for you, we don’t sell it, and you can ask us for a copy or for all of it to be deleted.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, the name you give us, and your password — which is stored by our authentication provider as a one-way hash. We never see it.
- What you save: for each trophy or hit-list entry — species and category, a title, the measurements you enter, the gross, net and field scores and the breakdown behind them, the scoring system used, the date, the weapon, the location, state and unit you type in, your notes, your tags, whether it’s a favorite, and the season or harvest year.
- Where things were taken: only the words you type. Vizirack never reads your device’s location and never asks for it. The location, state and unit on a trophy are free-text fields — leave them blank and we hold no location at all.
- Photos you keep: the trophy and shed photos you save to your trophy room, and any photo you send in to Rack IQ. Your browser re-saves every photo before it uploads, which strips the metadata the camera embedded in the file — including the GPS coordinates of where it was taken. What reaches us is the picture itself, resized, with no camera data and no position attached. A photo you send in to Rack IQ is re-encoded a second time on our server, so the metadata is gone whatever your browser did or didn’t do.
- A photo you only scored isn’t kept. When you run an AI Rack Read, the picture goes to our AI provider for the read and is not stored by us. It becomes a stored photo only if you go on to save that animal to your trophy room.
- AI Rack Reads: we do record the read itself — the species and category, the estimate, the bracket and band, the confidence, whether it was a free re-read, and how long it took — so we can see how the scoring engine is performing. That record holds no image and no measurements of yours.
- Rack IQ rounds: for each animal you guess, we record your guess, the score it was graded against, how far off you were, how far off Vizirack was, whether you beat it, the date and the track you played. Your first guess on an animal is the one that counts. If you play signed out, nothing is recorded unless you sign in and save that round.
- Photos you send in to Rack IQ: the photograph, the gross score and how it was measured, any taped measurements you add, your notes, the boxes you tick — that you hold the rights, that there are no overlays, whether anyone identifiable is in it and consented — whether you want to be credited, and whether you allow the photo to be used for testing Vizirack’s scoring.
- Official scores you tell us about: if you enter a verified or officially measured score for an animal we already estimated, we keep both numbers together so we can see how far off the estimate was and improve the scoring engine.
- Plan and billing: your plan, subscription status, when the paid year ends, how many reads you’ve used, your pack balance, and your customer ID with our payment provider. Card details go straight to Stripe — they never touch our servers and we never see or store them.
- If you join the waitlist or ask to be told when a species is added: the email address you give, which form it came from, and the species you tick. For the waitlist we also store the IP address and browser user-agent of the request, to spot and block abuse of the form.
- Which emails we’ve sent you: for each one, the address it went to, which email it was, when it went, and the provider’s ID for the message. We keep this so the same email can never go out twice, so we can tell whether something actually sent when you say you didn’t get it, and so we know what you’ve already been told. We don’t track whether you opened it or clicked anything in it.
- Which emails you want: a switch for each kind, plus a single off switch set by the unsubscribe link.
- How the app is used: which screens you open, when a read is scored or fails, when a paywall is shown, when a trophy is saved, when a share card is made, when a checkout starts, and how you move through Rack IQ — opening it, finishing a round and the result, looking at a board, sharing, and sending a photo in. These events are tied to your account’s internal ID only — never your email, name, photos, notes or locations. Screen recording is off, and page text and form fields are masked. A Rack IQ link someone shares carries a tag saying it came from a share, and that is recorded with the page view.
We don’t use advertising trackers, and we don’t sell or rent your information to anyone.
How we use it
- To run the app: your trophy room, your hit list, your scores, your photos, your plan and your reads.
- To produce an AI Rack Read when you ask for one, which means sending that photo to our AI provider.
- To take payment, apply what you bought to your account, and keep a record of it.
- To run Rack IQ: grading your round, keeping your streak, and ranking the leaderboards.
- To measure and improve how accurate the scoring is — from official scores you choose to enter, and from how far off players’ guesses are as a group. Nobody has that second dataset, and it is only ever used as totals across players.
- To keep the service working and secure, including rate-limiting forms, checking sign-ups are human, and blocking abuse.
- To send you the emails the account needs — confirming your email address, resetting a password, confirming a change of address, and the receipt for joining the waitlist.
- To send you a short run of emails about how to use Vizirack after you sign up, and a few reminders after that — seasonal ones, a note when your reads are nearly gone, a nudge if nothing new has gone on your wall in months. To decide whether one is worth sending, and what to put in it, we look at your account at the moment we send: how many animals you’ve saved, whether you’ve run a Rack Read yet, your best score and what it was, when you last added something, and how many reads you have left. An email that told you to score your first buck when you’d already scored four would be worse than no email. You can turn all of this off — see Your choices.
- To understand which parts of the app get used, from the events above.
What other people can see
- Your trophy room is private. Your trophies, photos, measurements, scores and notes are visible only to you when you’re signed in. They are never shown to another player and never used in Rack IQ.
- Rack IQ leaderboards are public to other players. The daily board, and the weekly, monthly and all-time Rack IQ boards, show a shortened form of the name you gave when you signed up — or just “Hunter” if you didn’t give one — next to your rank and your totals. They never show another player your individual guesses or your email address. There’s no way to change that name in the app yet, so email us if you want it changed or taken off the boards.
- A photo you send in to Rack IQ, if we accept it, goes on a page every player sees, with its score and, when you ask to be credited, your name. Submissions are reviewed before that happens and are invisible to players until then — and you can ask us to withdraw a photo at any time.
- Your photos live in private storage buckets — your own and Rack IQ’s both. They are shown through signed links that expire (about an hour for your trophy photos, four for a Rack IQ round), so a link copied out of the page stops working.
- A share card is drawn when you ask for one and handed straight to your device. We don’t keep a copy and don’t host it anywhere. If you post one, you’re the one making it public.
Services that handle your information
We use these companies to run Vizirack. Each handles your information only to provide its service to us:
- Supabase — sign-in, the database and photo storage. It composes the account emails described above and hands them to Resend to deliver.
- Vercel — hosts the app and reports basic traffic analytics.
- Stripe — payments and subscriptions. Stripe receives your email address and holds your card details; we don’t.
- Anthropic — reads the photo you submit for an AI Rack Read to estimate the score. We send the picture and the scoring instructions, and nothing else: not your name, your email, your notes or any location. Under Anthropic’s API terms, what we send is not used to train their models. A photo you send in to Rack IQ is only ever put in front of the AI if you ticked that separate box when you sent it — showing a photo in Rack IQ does not do that on its own.
- PostHog — product analytics, from the events listed above.
- Resend — delivers every email we send, the account ones and the rest. It receives your email address and the finished message, which for some of them includes a score of yours or how many animals are on your wall. It doesn’t get your photos, your notes or your locations, and it is never sent anything about your Rack IQ rounds. It also holds the delivery record for each message — whether it was accepted, bounced, or reported as spam.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — checks that a sign-up or sign-in is coming from a person and not a script. It sees the request, not your account.
- Google Fonts — our marketing pages load typefaces from Google, which means your browser contacts Google for the font files. No account information is sent with that request.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service. If the business is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer with it — we’d tell you before that happened.
Cookies and storage on your device
We use cookies to keep you signed in and, when analytics are on, to recognize return visits. Your browser’s own storage holds a few things that stay on the device and never reach us: your light or dark theme, the species you’ve picked as favorites, whether you’ve waved away the “add Vizirack to your home screen” prompt, and — if you play Rack IQ without an account — that day’s round, until you either sign in and save it or the day ends. We don’t use cookies for advertising.
Keeping and deleting your information
- We keep your information while your account is open.
- Deleting a trophy in the app deletes its photos from storage along with it, and deleting a single photo removes the file too.
- Deleting your account takes your Rack IQ rounds with it. A photo of yours already in the Rack IQ bank is a separate thing — ask us and we’ll pull it, and the rounds already played against it keep the score they were graded on.
- To get a copy of your data, or to have your account and everything in it deleted, email hello@vizirack.com. We’ll do it within 30 days and confirm when it’s done. There is no self-serve delete or export button in Settings yet — the inbox is the way to ask today.
- Payment records are kept by Stripe for as long as the law requires, and a deletion of your Vizirack account doesn’t erase their records of a transaction.
- Waitlist emails are kept until the waitlist is retired or you ask us to remove yours.
- The record of which emails we’ve sent you is kept while your account is open, and goes with it when the account is deleted. We keep it rather than clear it because it’s what stops an email going out a second time.
Children
Vizirack is not for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
To stop the emails: every email we send that isn’t strictly about your account carries an unsubscribe link in the footer. One click, no signing in, and it takes effect straight away — there’s no confirmation step and nothing else to do. Your mail program may show its own unsubscribe button next to the message, which works the same way. If you’d rather keep some of it, Settings has a switch for each kind.
Turning those off doesn’t touch the emails your account needs — confirming your address, resetting your password, signing in with a link. Those aren’t marketing, and while the account is open we have to be able to send them.
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for a copy, or ask for it to be deleted — email hello@vizirack.com. Depending on where you live you may have further rights over your information; write to us and we’ll honor them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll say so in the app or by email before it takes effect. See also the Terms of Service.
